Cheap Things to Do With Your Kids During the COVID-19 Pandemic

We want to start with this page after the crazy year we’ve all just had. No matter where you are in the world, we have all been massively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic which started and is still continuing (at the time of writing). Everyone has had a different experience with the pandemic and some have been more affected than others. We want to take a moment to give a shoutout to parents! With children off school, it can be difficult at times (especially if you’re working from home too). With limited resources to keep them entertained at home whilst outdoor time is limited, we wanted to give dads (and mums if they’re reading) some suggestions for free/ cheap ideas to do with their children…

Fitness activities

There was a period that no one was allowed outside and this was a huge worry for parents. Usually, if your child is overactive, you could take them on a walk, down to the local park, cycling and any other outdoor activities that would allow them to burn off some energy. But for a few months, people were only allowed out for ”essential trips” which meant hospital appointments, shopping for food and water supplies, dog-walking etc. So burning off that steam had to be moved inside. But fear not, there are endless fitness activities that you can practice inside too. Such as fitness DVDs, yoga, WII fit (if you have one) and so much more. And the best thing? you can easily get up a youtube video and find thousands of free fitness routines.

Legoooooo

Let’s face it, who doesn’t love lego? It’s something that you can get enjoyment out of at any age. And lego is so advanced now that you can make thousands of different things. Children love the thrill of building and lego can easily keep them entertained for hours with more complicated and time-consuming builds available. Want to build a house, a car, your favourite movie hero, a theme park? lego has got you covered. The lego creations almost seem endless.

Baking

It’s time to get those colourful sprinkles out. It’s no secret that children’s favourite thing about baking is that they get to eat it at the end. Which makes it fun and yummy for them, win-win! It’s also a great way to start teaching your kids the basics of cooking skills that can come in super useful in the future. And who knows, maybe your kid will want to become the next Mary Berry. Some simple things to start off with are cookies, cakes and pizza! Then you can move onto more complicated dishes depending on your children’s age.

Back or front garden activities

If you’re lucky enough to have a front of back yard during the COVID-19 pandemic then you should use it to your full advantage! It’s important for the children to get fresh air and blow off steam outside. Even if you only have a small outside space there are many different things you can set up to keep your children entertained. You can turn it into a waterpark super easily by getting a plastic sheet and fairy liquid or baby shampoo. Of course, the kids will absolutely love this and you’ll struggle to get them inside in time for dinner. Or get some messy arts and crafts out there! Painting is a good one to take outside.

Try these four great activities out and you’re guaranteed to keep your kids entertained!
